Why I live in less than 500 square feet

I've often been asked why my partner and I choose to live in less than 500 square feet. Somehow, it actually feels liberating to live here, particularly after having owned and lived in a 4-story row house, as well as a 2-story town home.

Americans don't say that very often, but I guess I often wonder if "traditional" American views of property are changing, particularly in urban areas. We live with a beautiful city and bay view, and without the headaches of a lot of maintenance. We have access to a lot of common space in our building - including a gym, free for residents - and we even have outdoor space available to us.

What are the downsides? Having to think about where everything goes. We don't have the luxury of a lot of storage room, so can't just buy to buy. We buy to replace, and the Goodwill benefits. :)

And, of course, I couldn't do this if I had children - although several people in our building do. There are benefits and downsides to every way of living, and I'm hoping to highlight the positives to living small. After all, it makes it possible for me to consider a life of travel sooner than I might normally be able to do so!
